Boulevard East jitneys run from Midtown Manhattan through the Lincoln Tunnel and along JFK Boulevard East through Weehawken, West New York, Guttenberg, and North Bergen. Jitneys terminate at Nungessers (intersection of Bergenline Avenue, JFK Boulevards East and West, and Woodcliff Avenue) in North Bergen, which is a transfer point to other jitney routes.

Some buses continue past Nungessers and onto the Fairview Avenue route.

This is the jitney bus route with the highest quality vehicles- sometimes luxury charter buses are employed to provide jitney service.

Inbound towards New York, the buses drop off at 40th and 8th, and 40th and 7th. It is common for passengers to get off at various point along 40th Street, as traffic moves very slowly.

Some buses continue to the East Side of Manhattan. In the evening rush hour, a small number trips (but not all) pick up at 42nd Street & 2nd Ave.

In New York, buses board on the north side of 42nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, across the street from the Port Authority. Be careful, as Bergenline buses also pick up here.

In Union City, most jitneys exit the Lincoln Tunnel approach directly onto Boulevard East, although some may operate via Park Avenue and Highwood Terrace.

Typical “New York Blvd East” signage

Buses run approximately every 4 minutes during rush hours and every 5 minutes in the middle of the day.  From Sundays through Thursdays, the last departure from 42nd street is at 3 am.  On Fridays and Saturdays, service runs all through the night.

These buses run on a similar route to NJ Transit routes 128, 159, 166, and 168, which all run frequently to the Port Authority.

Fares are between $1.50 local, and $3-$5 for trips to and from New York..

Multiple different companies operate this route, so not all buses will have the same signage. In general, signs will say “New York Boulevard East” (see above). If in doubt, ask the driver.
